First Look at the New Brooks Glycerin 17

If you’re a fan of the bestselling Brooks shoe, the Glycerin, then we’ve got good news for you – Brooks are just launching version 17! And this is one of those shoes which boasts a lot of tech!

Shoes don’t tend to make it to 17 editions – it debuted in 2002 – without delivering what runners want. The Glycerin has long been loved by runners who want a lot of cushioning. This has made it a favourite for high mileage training or racing. It also has a 10mm drop, so this one isn’t for the minimalists.

So what makes the Brooks Glycerin so cushioned?

Firstly, it uses DNA LOFT, which is also used in the Brooks Ghost and Adrenaline GTS shoes. The unique blend of EVA foam, rubber and air is designed to be durable, lightweight and responsive, so it gives a really cushioned feel while remaining hardwearing.

Secondly, the outsole uses IDEAL Pressure Zones which help to disperse pressure while the Plush Transition Zone allows the foot to move smoothly from heel to toe.

What’s new about this version?

In the words of Hugo Chouissa, EMEA footwear merchandiser, “Adding to the Glycerin 17’s luxurious experience underfoot, a new OrthoLite® sockliner provides step-in comfort as premium as a bed in a seven-star hotel suite”. Over foot, the internal stretch bootie moves and expands to enhance the fit and the breathability of the double jacquard, engineered mesh upper with 3D Fit Print which delivers flexible structure.

With a shoe as popular as this it makes sense not to mess too much with the design and the features. Hopefully those runners who’ve been using it faithfully for years will continue to find all the things they like about it. We’d love to hear your feedback.

The Glycerin 17 is available online at brooksrunning.com/en_gb and at retailers for £135.
