‘We’re putting British ultra running back on the map’: an Interview With Tom Evans

Tom Evans burst onto the world ultra running stage when he came third in the Marathon des Sables last year. He followed this up with 4th places in the Eiger Trail Ultra and CCC races later that year and finished 3rd in the Ultra Trail World Tour.  In arguably the most competitive race he’s done so far – the 2018 Trail World Championships – he won the bronze medal.

Zach Miller from the US set a furious pace right from the start. But Tom was never far behind him. Tom chased and chased and when Luis Alberto moved through the top 10 and eventually took the lead just after halfway, Tom still stayed only a few minutes behind Luis and Zach. Once Zach faded another very strong Spaniard, Cristofer Clemente, came through it became an exciting duel between Tom and Cristofer to the finish at Penyagolosa.

Tom showed that he can compete with the very best in the world. He made such a splash that the Spanish media (who aren’t easily impressed by non-Spanish runners!) took note of him. Our friends at Carreras de Montana caught up with him right after the race.
