With UTMB 2020 cancelled, Pau Capell completed the iconic Tour du Mont-Blanc (TMB) course, running solo with a time of 21:17:18. Pau Capell’s ‘Breaking 20’ film covers his attempt last August.
Running without the presence of competitors, the 2019 UTMB winner felt compelled to take on the course and inspire all those who continue to face challenges in this difficult year, including all those runners who were unable to take part.
Considered as one of the most challenging and prestigious trails in the world, the trail consists of a gruelling 171km and 10,000 metres of elevation gain, taking in some of the most breathtaking parts of the Alps and crossing France, Italy and Switzerland in the process.
Competing alone, with just a small support crew of his close team ensured the health and safety of others, but also made this run as much a mental as physical challenge and required all of Pau’s strength and expert preparation, right down to the smallest of details.
To take on this run, Pau wore the new Flight VECTIV™ from The North Face. VECTIV is an all-new athlete-tested, patented technology system designed to meet the demands of the world’s top athletes, making it perfect for this attempt.
For Pau, preparation for the run was difficult with global lockdown meaning a lack of training facilities, travel restrictions and the disappointment of UTMB 2020 being cancelled. The opportunity to challenge himself was as important as breaking his record in the face of adversity and encouraging others to overcome their own obstacles.
