This has been a frustrating year for runners wanting to compete. It’s been just as frustrating for the charities that are so dependant on your fundraising efforts to keep their good work going. Rennie Grove Hospice Care are looking for supporters to do the Herts 10k and Half Marathon for them.
Rennie Grove Hospice Care’s biggest fundraising event is back this October, but not in the way you might expect…
- The Virtual Herts 10k and Half Marathon
- Sunday 4 October 2020
The fundraising team said this: “To celebrate 15 years of the event in a safe and responsible way, we’re inviting you to join us and take part in our Virtual Herts 10K and Half. Because hosting the race in Harpenden in October 2020 will no longer be possible, we’re inviting you to join us virtually and run either a 10k or a half marathon in your area”.

“We’re hoping you can start your race on Sunday 4th October, the day the race should’ve been in Harpenden, and join us for the zoom call at 10:00am however, if you can’t make it to join us then, you’ll have the rest of week to complete your 10k or half marathon distance”.
What you get for signing up
“By signing up, you’ll still receive a race pack including:
- A medal
- T-shirt
- Support from us during your training
- On-the-day participant activities
- Fundraising advice.
This event has been a cornerstone of funding for Rennie Grove Hospice Care for 15 years. While we won’t be able to see you in person, we hope you can still join us in running and fundraising for this important local service to some of the most vulnerable people in our community”.
On the Day
“We’d love you to join us and the rest of our running community for a pre-race zoom warm up. There’s also an app which you can share with friends and family. They can track you live on your run, a leader board of results and a virtual wall of fame! We’re encouraging the younger generation to take part in our event and there will be a Junior Division for the virtual Herts 10K. This will be for ages 12 – 16 years. If you’re under 12 years old, don’t worry, we simply need parental consent for you to take part”.

Why The Herts 10K and Half needs you more than ever
“During lockdown, Rennie Grove Hospice Care’s seen record numbers of more than 600 patients being cared for. This unprecedented demand for our hospice at home service has been twinned with a funding crisis. Shops have been closed for months, and all events were cancelled. If we’re to meet this growing demand, we need you, now more than ever”.
If you’re local to Harpenden, sign up, take part, and give it your best shot to fundraise for a local charity that needs you!
If you’re not local, it’s a virtual event, you can do it anywhere!
