Two-time Olympic champion Eliud Kipchoge continued his love affair with the London Marathon in 2025 by finishing sixth in a time of 2:05:25.
The 40-year-old has won the iconic British race on four occasions – in 2015, 2016, 2018 and 2019 – and boasts 11 World Marathon Major titles in addition to his Olympic exploits.
The GOAT of marathon running, who held the world record for the 26.2-mile distance between 2018 and 2023, may be in the twilight of his professional career, but the Kenyan showcased he can still mix it at the top in London.
Kipchoge puts result in perspective
At this point in his career, Kipchoge admitted victory is not the be-all and end-all when it comes to performance.

He finished sixth behind fellow Kenyan Sabastian Sawe who claimed a famous victory, refusing to be beaten by the course following a disappointing DNF at the Paris Olympic Games last summer.
“In sport, as in life, not every attempt turns into victory, but each one brings meaning,” he posted on Instagram.
“I leave London motivated, happy, and hungry for what comes next. Thank you for all your cheers on the course. This race and these fans have the biggest place in my heart. Running is a movement.”
It looks the like long-distance running legend will be continuing in the sport for some time to come, and few would bet against the GOAT adding more accolades to his prestigious resumé.
