It is recognised by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) as a Gold Label race, placing it in the same category as races such as the New York City Marathon, Boston Marathon and London Marathon.

Now in its 21st year, it is the first and only IAAF Gold Label Marathon in the Middle East and the largest mass participation sports event in the region with over 30,000 participants expected to take part.

The 2020 Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon, taking place on January 24th, is expecting a record number of Emiratis line up alongside some of the world’s elite runners thanks to the viral #MyCity_MyRace campaign.

The race starts and finishes on the Umm Suqeim Road in Al Sufouh, opposite the Madinat Jumeirah. The route follows the Dubai Coastline taking runners past some of Dubai’s most iconic sights, with some of Dubai’s best-known landmarks, including the Burj Al Arab Hotel, providing the backdrop.
