Men’s marathon GOAT Eliud Kipchoge has confirmed he will race in the TCS Sydney Marathon for the first time later this year.
Sydney is the seventh and most recent addition to the Abbott World Marathon Majors series.
And Kipchoge has an unparalled record over 26.2 miles, having twice won Olympic gold at the distance as well as 11 victories in World Marathon Majors.
‘A huge opportunity’ for Kipchoge
The Sydney race is on Sunday 31 August and the former world-record holder told World Athletics: “I am so excited. This is not only my first time racing the TCS Sydney Marathon, but also my first time running in Oceania.
“Competing in Australia is a huge opportunity for me. Sydney looks like a stunning city with so many iconic sights. It’s going to be a new and special experience for me.
“I’ve been to many places to share my vision of making this world a running world. As I’ve never been to Australia before, I want to help make Australia a running nation.”

London Marathon first
Kipchoge currently holds the second-fastest marathon time in history with his 2:01:09 and he was the first human to go under two hours when he clocked 1:59:40 as part of the Ineos 1:59 Challenge in 2019.
Before Sydney he will first take part in the TCS London Marathon on Sunday April 27, a race he has won four times.
The lineup there looks potentially the greatest men’s field ever assembled with Kipchoge’s great rival Kenenisa Bekele just one of a number of star names he’ll be up against.
Alex Mutiso (KEN) is back to defend his title and also there are current Olympic champion Tamirat Tola (ETH), the fifth-fastest man in history, Sabastian Sawe (KEN), and Jacob Kiplimo (UGA), who recently clocked that incredible new world record at the Barcelona Half Marathon.
