Britain’s most successful Olympian Jason Kenny can now say he is a London Marathon finisher too after producing a terrific performance in his first attempt at the iconic race on Sunday.
Kenny claimed seven incredible gold medals as an elite cyclist for TeamGB, and admitted before the race that he has fallen in love with running since retiring from competitive racing on two wheels.
He said: “I’ve never seen myself as a runner, but since retiring from competing on the bike I’ve started to run more and completely fallen in love with it.
“Taking on the TCS London Marathon for the first time is a huge challenge, but I’m excited to step out of my comfort zone. It’s a different kind of test and I’m ready to give it my all.”
The finishing time
The 37-year-old star showed he has made good use of the time training as he completed Sunday’s 26.2-mile marathon test in a very respectable time of 3:43:19.
Kenny showed admirable consistency, arriving at halfway in 1:50:40 and only starting to drop his average pace in the closing miles.
