Cape Wrath Ultra: Øderud and O’Driscol lead after day six

Thomas Øderud has established a five minute lead at the end of day six of the Cape Wrath Ultra.

The Norewgian has closely tracked the leaders of the men’s race from the start, moving into second place on day two and had finished just eight minutes behind day five leader Graham Walton.

He turned the tables on Walton finishing with an overall time of 39:10:43, with Walton second and Ireland’s David Barrie holding on to third place.

Day six is the longest stage of the race at 64.7km with the runners facing some extremely remote and rough ground between Inverbroom and Inchnadamph. 

In the women’s race, Ireland’s Laura O’Driscoll continued to show remarkable courage maintaining to maintain top spot despite the ankle injury she picked up on day three.

She finished ahead of Vicky Savage (GBR) who, clawed back some time but was still two-and-a-half hours behind O’Driscoll at the end of the day. Claire Gordon held on to third place.

Day seven from Inchnadamph to Kinlochbervie is one of the longer days in the race at 57.7 km with 1,575m of ascent and taking in moor, mountain and sea lochs.
