Transgrancanaria Classic results 2026: Albon family double but a DNF for Tom Evans

It was a memorable day in the Canary Islands for the Albons as Henriette and Jon took the wins in the flagship race

There was an incredible family double in the flagship Classic race at The North Face Transgrancanaria as Heniette and Jon Albon took the respective titles.

Henriette was repeating her victory from 12 months earlier while her husband Jon went one better than his second place in 2025.

The third event in the World Trail Majors covers 125km with 6,700m of elevation gain and it saw seriously challenging conditions early on – and among those to DNF was reigning UTMB champion Tom Evans.

Elite women’s race

Early on it was Claudia Tremps, runner-up to Albon last year and Courtney Dauwalter in 2024, who set the pace.

But she was was caught in Fontanales by Katarzyna Dombrowska and then at the El Hornillo checkpoint, Albon also moved past her and into second.

But the race changed complexion at the Tejeda aid station after 80.5km when Dombrowska arrived with an injury to her right leg, which would eventually force her to withdraw.

Albon was now in the lead and never looked back, quickly opening up a significant advantage over Tremps and Mélanie Delasoie and that pair would decide to cross the finish line together in a nice show of sportsmanship for joint second place.

Henriette had finished more than an hour and a half earlier in 15 hours, 16 minutes and 33 seconds.

Elite men’s race

Jon Albon had to settle for second place in the men’s race in 2025 behind Caleb Olson who would go on to land a first Western States title.

And the calibre of the field was again top notch, with UTMB champ Evans the pre-race favourite.

He was one of four men in a select front group for the first seven hours alongside Albon, Hannes Namberger and Josh Wade.

But the freezing night temperatures saw Evans withdraw at Degollada de Las Palomas, with his Asics Trail team posting on Instagram: “It’s not always about winning but giving it 100%. Brutal conditions shaped the early hours of the @transgrancanaria Classic. Wind, rain, fog and cold made every step harder. “Intentions and preparation were good but Tom unfortunately had to withdraw at 67km. “This is the nature of trail running. “Nothing but respect, @tomevansultra.”

In starkly different conditions later on, Albon led through the heat of the Barranco de los Vicentes and crossed the finish line at Parque Sur in 12:58:08.

Namberger, in his Gran Canaria debut, was second just five minutes later, while Wade was third for the second year in a row.
