British runner Jonathan Albon won the UTMB CCC 2023 ahead of Chinese runner Jiasheng Shen in the men’s field of the UTMB CCC, while Norway’s Yngvild Kaspersen won the women’s race.

Albon leapfrogged American Dakota Jones to become the main challenger to long-time leader Sheng, before eventually claiming victory with Jones holding on to third.

Norway’s Yngvild Kaspersen led for the vast majority of the women’s race and had a big lead over her nearest rivals. American Helen Mino Faukner was locked in a battle for second, eventually losing out to Zimbabwean Emily Hawgood.

Who are the contenders at the 2023 UTMB CCC?

Dakota Jones will be one of the main challengers in the men’s race this year, looking to build on his win at the Transvulcania La Palma Island by UTMB 2023 Ultra race.

Italian Andrea Reiterer will also fancy his chances, following a good 2023 season in which he came second in the WMTRC Long Trail event.

China’s Jiasheng Shen came fourth at UTMB CCC last year and finished in the same spot at this year’s Western States- could he make his way onto the podium at the 100k event at the UTMB World Series Finals?

Britain’s Jonathan Albon was the runner up at the UTMB CCC last year, and will be looking to match fellow countryman Tom Evans who won in 2018 – and is hoping to take the UTMB title this year.

Helen Mino Faukner is expected to be near the front of the women’s field – she has picked up the Speedgoat by UTMB 50k and Valholl Ultra Trail By UTMB 80K titles this year.

Her fellow American, Emily Schmitz, has also secured several good finishes this year- she was 19th at this event in 2022.

What is the UTMB CCC?

The UTMB CCC (Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc Courmayeur – Champex – Chamonix) is an event at the UTMB World Series Finals which acts as the World Series Final for the 100km category of races.

A historic race in its own right, the UTMB CCC- named after the towns the route goes through – is the second longest race at the UTMB, and is often ran by elite runners ahead of a future attempt at the ‘big’ UTMB.
